Pinterest recently released a new analytics tool for businesses. This tool allows businesses to see detailed data on the number of users that engage with their pins, information on what countries those users are from, what their interests are, and off-network data for those that have the ‘Pin It’ button installed on their websites.

Anyone can take advantage of the analytics tool as long as they sign up for a free Pinterest business account. The target audience for this new tool, Pinterest says, is small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
“At a high level, we are super interested in content creators of any types and also SMBs getting value out of this,” Jason Costa, product manager at Pinterest, says. “At the end of the day, what we are hoping is that these guys will be able to derive insights from the tool, inform their marketing strategies and ultimately help pinners have a better experience by optimizing the type of content.”
As Pinterest is introducing their new analytics tool, so are other social network companies like Twitter and Instagram, who all have their eyes set on attracting more businesses and advertising revenue.
But at the moment, Pinterest’s is less about bringing in advertising dollars, Costa says, and more about really informing SMBs how their marketing strategy is working on Pinterest.
“By and large,” Costa says, “we are putting this out there to make sure these businesses are getting the insights that they need to make sure their marketing and product strategies are improving over time.”
Pinterest averages 70 million worldwide users that spend around 14 minutes per visit on the site. In contrast, most of your website’s visitors will only spend 15 seconds or less before moving on!
So, for business owners, Pinterest is the perfect place to capture the attention of potential customers.
Here are a few tips for doing just that:
- Keep your target audience in mind, but also remember that 80% of all Pinterest users are women! So, even if you have products specifically for men, you can market them towards women as gifts for their husbands, fathers, brothers, et cetera.
- Don’t just pin your products, pin things related to your product and things that can be used with your product. Be sure to link to your product in the description.
- Dedicate Pinterest boards to tips and advice on a particular topic that can help the audience you are targeting.
- Pin yourself! Give your audience a behind-the-scenes look at the daily goings-on of your business. If you have written a book or other literature, pin quotes from it. Pin things that inspire you – how your run your business, your everyday life, anything that evokes the feeling you want people to have when they look at your business.
