Twitter has announced yesterday an update that introduces image and video previews on the timeline. After a long time with a stream of text messages, it seems that Twitter has decided to become more visually attractive.
In the era of the visual content, and with Instagram and Pinterest thriving, Twitter realizes they won’t succeed in long-term if they don’t adapt to the changing times. Either you like it or not, images and videos are replacing texts in many cases, while infographics sometimes replace a long boring text. Even Facebook adapted by recently improving the way the images appear on the newsfeed. Thus, right before its IPO, Twitter is experimenting with a more visual timeline, hoping to gain new users.
Moreover, Twitter knows that this new update will suit well the advertisers that want to promote their product in the best possible way. We all know how engaging a picture or a video can be, which means that Twitters requires from now on a brand new strategy for the promotion of your business. This doesn’t mean that Twitter becomes Pinterest overnight, but it’s up to them to find a balance between the important text updates and announcements and the visually attractive images.
You don’t have to over-post images from now on. Just make sure that you post more than before, in order to increase the possibilities of grabbing your followers’ attention.
If you are among those that did not like this new feature, you are not alone. Many users have already complained about Twitter losing its primary focus, for the sake of its IPO. If you want to disable the feature from your mobile, go to settings and turn it off by the option ‘Image Previews’.
