Developed by Michael Torbert and with over 19 million downloads, the All in One SEO pack is the biggest SEO plug-in for WordPress available. But, it still only has a 3.9 out of 5.0 rating. It boasts an easy-to-use, right-out-of-the-box feature; just install, and you are set. While it is regularly updated, it is still missing many features that would make it the unchallenged SEO champion. This product is being advertised as free, but it witholds many features unless you upgrade to the paid version. Users of the paid version have reported numerous bugs and issues. With that being said, it does have many features that the competition does not. One of these features is that it automatically generates the META description and the focus keyword, but still gives you the ability to change them to your needs. But the biggest draw to this tool is its simplicity; it doesn’t overwhelm you with options, but still has the basic functionality that both an inexperienced and an advanced user would need.

Features

  • Google Analytics support
  • Support for SEO on Custom Post Types
  • Built-in API so other plugins/themes can access and extend functionality
  • Generates META tags automatically
  • Avoids the typical duplicate content found on WordPress blogs
  • For beginners, you don’t even have to look at the options, it works out-of-the-box. Just install.

WordPress SEO by Yoast

Quickly becoming the next big SEO plugin for WordPress, WordPress SEO by Yoast has 11 million downloads and a 4.7 rating. It comes with many features that most plug-ins make you buy, and it is the first choice for both personal bloggers and professional SEO analysts. While it is not as easy to use right out of the box like its competition, it has many more features to help with your SEO profile. Some of its best features are the ability to integrate with your social profiles and the ability to directly edit your Robot files. That being said, if you are just a casual blogger looking to improve your search ratings, the learning curve is a little steep. Even with all these features its main problem seems to be complaints about customer service. The main complaints centers around arguments over intellectual property and the issuing of refunds. But putting that aside, this is a great plug-in that has all the tools necessary to fill your SEO needs and more if you know how to use them.

Features

  • Robots Meta configuration
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Permalink clean up
  • XML Sitemaps
  • RSS enhancements
  • Edit your robots.txt and .htaccess
