Your timeline profile on Facebook will now show a little clock symbol for publishing your status updates. If you click on the clock, you can type in the year, and then the day and month fields. Your post will be placed in its correct spot in your timeline.

The past posts in your timeline don’t have the clock icon yet, but it should be coming soon. This should further help you manage your own story online, as you can add depth with the addition of more and more posts.

You will be able to scan in your old photos and place them in the correct spot in your timeline. Until now, captions were the only way to place a date on photos, but the caption wouldn’t put the photo in its correct chronological order.

The timestamp feature is a tip-off that Facebook is still moving forward with their beta test of the timeline feature, even though they have yet to announce an actual date.

You will need to install the Developer application before you can use timeline, and the only people who can see your timeline will also need to have the Developer application installed themselves.

When the beta version of timeline is unveiled, all users will be able to see it. But once again, there’s no firm date — the live test has already been postponed twice due to a trademark lawsuit over the word “timeline” brought by Timelines.com. Facebook could still change the name, but the feature currently called “timeline” is still on the way.
