When you want to get your brand new Facebook page in front of different users, one of the choices you have is to create an ad. While there are many different variations and campaign types to choose from, the most common two versions are boosted posts and page likes. In this article I will be going over the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of each campaign type, as well as a couple of tips.
Boosted Posts
Boosted posts are posts that have been published on your page that, for a price, can appear at the top of users’ news feeds. Once you boost your post, it will say that it has been boosted, and it will be limited to only people who like your page and their immediate friends.
Advantages
- Easy to launch
- Easily viewed in the news feed
Disadvantages
- Small amount of fans means small view base
- Very little targeting options
- You can only reach your fans and their friends
Tips
- Only promote original content
- Boost content that is useful to your audience
- Make your targeting as narrow as possible
Page Likes Campaign
A page like campaign is slightly different from boosting posts. The first difference being instead of spending money on a single post to get likes, you are spending money on getting overall page likes, which in turn will get engagement for the rest of your posts. This campaign allows you to boost your follower base and also get your brand name in front of more users.
Advantages
- Very target focused
- Once someone interacts with your ad, it appears in their feed
Disadvantages
- Can be costly without the right targeting
- If you aren’t careful you might reach the wrong market
Tips
- Make your targeting as specific as possible
- Make sure your ad is relevant to your target demographic
- Start with a smaller budget then progress as needed
