WordPress continues to get a lot of love when it comes to ranking well in Google. I still get asked the same question by lots of people though – how can I get more comments on my blog posts? Before going much further let me just say one quick thing. It is not all about how many comments you get on your post as much as it is about
the quality of the comments you receive. That being said it is still important to remember that Google can tell just how many comments your posts receive.
That being said it can certainly be helpful to have at least an occasional post that gets a lot of comment love from readers. To that end you should make your blog posts as reader friendly as possible. This in and of itself can certainly help to encourage commenting. Another point that some people forget is that you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for comments. Trust me – there is no shame in it. Tell people you are going to sing at their weddings if they don’t comment.
Sometimes it can be helpful to offer small giveaways to help encourage commenting. It doesn’t have to be much. Just make sure that you are getting the sort of comments that will benefit your post. No one likes having to sift through tons of spam comments just to find the couple of hidden jewels here and there. On that note, a great spam filter for comments can make a world of difference. There are several great WordPress anti-spam plugins out there ready to roll.
Keep your posts concise. One that rambles on and on will discourage readers into leaving the page before ever seeing the end of the article and thus abandoning before the comment section. There are some topics that are conducive to lengthy posts; however, the majority can certainly be wrapped up in less than 700 words. If not, then you should consider breaking it up into a multipart post.
Get out and comment on posts that others have done on their own sites. This can encourage reciprocal visits and comments. If you find that a certain writer does not reciprocate no matter how many times you visit and comment their articles, then move on to others who might be more likely to return the favor.
At the end of the day, if you will follow each of these tips and keep refining your chosen topics so that you can offer the best and most captivating info possible you will be a great deal more likely to get the comments you seek.
