Is your company looking to up its game when it comes to social media?

Social media is just as important as traditional marketing outlets now and is simply a necessity in any marketing plan.

Since social media is ever-changing, social media marketing plans need to be ever-changing as well. A new year is a great time to set some social media goals for your business’ marketing plan to up your game and keep up with the latest trends.

Here are 5 goals to set for your 2016 social media marketing plan:

  1. Incorporate (more) video.

Video is where it’s at on the internet these days. With the average person watching 39 minutes of video daily on a mobile device alone and 5 and a half hours on all devices combined, any business is missing out if their content isn’t at least a portion of that time. Many platforms such as Facebook are making it easier than ever to incorporate video by allowing videos to be uploaded directly into the platform.

  1. Be active on Instagram.

Instagram is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms and one of the largest concentration of millennials online. Plus all of your followers see every post in real time. The Instagram audience is also more likely to engage with content and pictures are said to be worth a thousand words right? Being on Instagram and being consistently active on there is a no-brainer for any social media marketing plan.

  1. Start live streaming.

Video has gone even further now with live-streaming and new platforms like Meerkat and Periscope are changing how close followers can get to brands they love. This isn’t something that can be outsourced or edited and that’s probably why it’s so popular. People love to feel that they are being genuinely talked to and appreciated, seeing that with their own eyes and hearing that with their own ears is priceless.

  1. Dedicate more money to paid ads.

As social media fills with more people, more noise and more information, it’s getting harder and harder to stand out from the crowd, especially on Facebook which is the social media giant. Paying for ads is a must now and compared to traditional ads, it costs peanuts for the proven reach your brand sees.

  1. Hire a dedicated social media manager or management team.

If you’re too busy to be consistent on social media or to even schedule it, outsource it. And not to the secretary or the intern that’s doing 500 other things. Dedicate one person or even a team to handle your most important asset–your reputation.
