There have been many studies done on how search engines are utilized by people who cruise the net. The findings were less than surprising with well over 90% of users relying on those search engines to find everything from cat videos or information on a topic of interest to products and services. That being said it is important for you to build your own approach, methodology, and even philosophy for handling SEO. Here at Posse Social Media we subscribe to a twelve point methodology that helps to guide how we handle search engine optimization.
Over the next couple days we will introduce this methodology to you and help you to understand how you can incorporate it into your own SEO efforts.
Point One
It’s All About the Content
The content that you offer on your website can make or break you. As such, you should only include copywriting that suits your site’s personal style. Are you working on a personal blog? If so, then you wouldn’t want copy that is overly businesslike in nature. Are you a business dealing in elite circles? If so, then you wouldn’t want to use tons of slang or colloquialisms. Remember, search engines will index a website based on its content on each page and post. That being said when you use language to its utmost by finding and targeting the market focus for your area of expertise you can then begin to work your site upwards in the search engine results.
Point Two
Analyzing the Results
How can you tell if your efforts are paying off? There is one easy way to answer this – Google Analytics. While it may seem that optimizing a website is a steady mix of art and science with a touch of magic tossed in, the truth is that an organized approach works best. By signing up for Google Analytics and using it to monitor your site you will begin to see trends on everything from where traffic comes from, how long it stays on the site, the keywords that people use to find the site and much more. Through monitoring these trends you will be able to identify areas for improvement in your site.
Point Three
Stay Away from Snake Oil Salesmen
How many guarantees have you heard from folks promising to get you to the number one spot on Google? Simply watch next time you hear this promise. That individual or business will typically promise to get you ranking high for very vague keyword phrases (i.e. “hottest dental technician in Lake Wylie Tennessee”). No one is typing this in. Don’t let them tell you otherwise. Short of having an inside track at Google – extremely unlikely – they will not be able to keep such a promise but may get you on the hook before you find it out. Be vigilant!
Take a moment and think about each of these three points. In part two of How Much do You Know About SEO we will be taking a look at even more important aspects of SEO campaigns.
